"Good tea grows in misty, high mountains" as a popular local saying goes, and tasting Sheng pu'er tea from Huazhuliangzi it is impossible to disagree. These tea leaves harvested in Spring 2023 make a refreshing and fulfilling Shengpu that blesses the palate with botanical fruity fragrances and a persistent balanced aftertaste. An invigorating Qi passes through the body as we keep tasting brew after brew, enjoying these vibrant fresh flavours and foreseeing its great ageing potential.
Huazhuliangzi mountain, with its 2430 meters above the sea level, is the highest peak in Xishuangbanna area, like an alpine altitude in a sub-tropical latitude framed by clouds and fog all year long.
One of the rarest mountains in our collection, Huazhuliangzi tea leaves are marked by more than one surprising characteristic. Wild forests have nurtured these precious leaves, which during the infusion release a deep flavor and the fresh aroma of young tea trees that cools the palate.
It has a distinct apricot fragrance, with the sweetness of green Xinjiang raisin and a slightly acidic part of lemongrass and Chinese melon.
It has a medium bitterness, stronger at the beginning but with a slightly sweet aftertaste that lingers in the mouth and in the cup.
The great skills and craftsmanship of the Bameng minorities, and the ecosystem living in the undergrowth of this particular area, all contribute to the unique quality and refreshing flavor of this special Pu'er Shengpu.
Harvested in Spring 2023 by Zhangqiang.

Considered the highest point in Xishuangbanna (滑竹/huazhu = smooth bamboo, 梁子/liangzi = ridge), we initially took note of this area when passing by enroute to Naka in 2021, driving under a long, dreamy canopy of towering bamboo. Already behind schedule due to some “navigational issues”, we weren’t able to stop and explore on that day, but we committed to making this one of our stops for 2022. This year we were not disappointed at all.
This tea is a continuation of our love for all things Mengsong-area. Born from an environment similar to our Plum Beauty, this tea unsurprisingly has a lot in common with its aforementioned neighbors of Naka and Mengsong, which includes a nice balance of mineral sweetness, kuwei/pleasant bitterness, and notes of stone fruit. If we were to get even more specific, a slight peach quality can be picked up, at least in its fresh state. There is a delicate and smooth texture, making this an enjoyable tea on multiple levels.
As with several other teas we’ve offered, this one highlights the impact and importance of a clean, natural environment and offers an excellent experience for both new and experienced drinkers.
------------------------------
Although this tea is young, it coats the mouth and leaves a tingling sweetness behind on the tongue for a long time after the session. As a common feature of the terroir of this area (the Huazhuliangzi ridge is just one mountain valley away from the beloved Naka region), this tea has an ever so slight saline quality in the brew, which undoubtably comes from its unique mineral-rich growing environment.

357g 2024 Hua Zhu Liang Zi Sheng Pu'er Bing 滑竹梁子生普洱餅
( 滑竹梁子生普洱餅, Huá Zhú Liáng Zǐ Shēng Pǔ'ěr Bǐng, "Slippery Bamboo Ridge Raw Pu'er Bing")
Hua Zhu Liangzi means "Slippery Bamboo Ridge" and is a small community in Mengsong, about two hours north of Nannuo Mountain. Of the 6 sheng cakes from this series, Hua Zhu Liangzi is the sweetest. Its softness and brown sugar/marshmallow notes on the empty cup make this a great introductory sheng for those who may be put off by the bitterness of sheng. It is bright with no hint of grassiness and conspicuously lacking astringency.
--------------------------
In the local culture of Yunnan, "Liangzi" refers to the highest mountain range in the area. "Hua Bamboo" refers to the mountains covered with patches of wild bamboo. The bamboo body is thick and smooth, hence the name Hua Bamboo Liangzi. Huazhuliangzi, with an altitude of 2429.5 meters, is known as the "Top of Xishuangbanna" and is the highest mountain in Xishuangbanna.
Because it is located in a deep mountain with inconvenient transportation and difficulty in picking and transporting tea, Huazhuliangzi was once forgotten in the high mountains. It is located in the "Naban River Basin National Nature Reserve", and the natural ecological environment is very well protected. Therefore, the tea here is full of flavor and has a very pure aroma of honey and wilderness.
At present, in the concept of pure Pu'er tea, the more strict one is a single tea made from the same ancient tree, picked at the same time, and made separately. The output is quite rare. This tea uses ancient tea trees as raw materials. Because the quantity is too rare, Therefore, we picked raw materials from three ancient trees of similar age to ensure a clean and pure taste to the greatest extent, and also have greater conversion value in the future.
8g each, first brew the buffering tea, then brew it with boiling water, the aroma will spread, the fragrance is fresh, floral, and a hint of mountainous scenery, it smells comfortable, the soup color is orange and translucent, the first feeling in the mouth is that the water contains fragrance, The taste is refreshing yet mellow, with camphor and woody aromas gradually coming out and then melting away. It is sweet yet soft, with an obvious aftertaste. A hint of mountain charm slowly develops, and the rich floral and fruity fragrance floats in the mouth. The taste is full, like a tea. It is full of air and has particularly high foam resistance.
